Doron McHugh Appointed Men’s Head Coach
Corrib RFC are delighted to announce the appointment of Doron McHugh as Men’s Head Coach for the season ahead.
Doron brings a strong coaching and playing background to the role, with over 15 years of experience across youth, college, club and provincial rugby. His coaching CV includes work at club and representative level, with roles across Claremorris Colts RFC, Connacht Rugby Senior Women’s Team, Connacht Rugby Youth and Senior Award programmes, Castlebar RFC, OLBC RFC, Galwegians RFC, GMIT Rugby, Yeats College and Connacht Rugby.
A scrum and lineout specialist, Doron has worked extensively in player development, forward play and breakdown coaching. His recent roles include Director of Rugby and Head Coach with Claremorris Colts RFC, Forwards Coach with the Connacht Rugby Senior Women’s Team, and Scrum Module Coach with Connacht Rugby Youth and Senior Award Coach programmes.
Doron's coaching honours include the Curley Plate in 2025, the Connacht Junior Plate in 2024 and 2025, Connacht J1A Super 4 qualification in 2024, the Connacht Cawley Plate in 2023 and 2024, and Connacht J1A League play-off appearances in 2022 and 2023. He also guided GMIT Rugby to an All-Ireland College Cup Division 3 title in 2016, the same year the side won GMIT Team of the Year.
As a player, Doron also built an impressive record. His honours include multiple Connacht Senior Cup and Connacht Senior League titles with Galwegians, an All-Ireland Junior Interprovincial Cup with Connacht in 2011, and All-Ireland League experience at Division 2A and Division 1B level with Galwegians.
Doron will be joined by Brian Murphy as Backs Coach. Together, they will lead the Men’s setup as the club continues to develop a strong senior squad, a clear playing identity, and a pathway for players progressing through the club.
Corrib RFC would also like to offer sincere thanks to outgoing Head Coach Thomas Smith.
Thomas has given two years of excellent service to the Men’s Team. During that time, he worked with a young squad and played an important role in developing the squad, building confidence and creating a positive environment around the men's rugby group. His commitment, energy and care for the group have been hugely appreciated by players, coaches and the wider club.
