Weekend Round-Up: Junior Cup Progress
It was another busy weekend for Corrib RFC, with action across age grades and a big result in cup competition.
U16 Girls – League Action
Our U16 Girls made the trip to Ballinrobe on Sunday morning for a tough league fixture. In a competitive and well-fought contest, the home side edged the result on the day, with the game finishing 46–24.
Despite the outcome, the performance showed plenty of positives, and the squad continues to build well as the season progresses. Corrib currently sit second in the league table, a strong position heading into the next run of fixtures.
Senior Men – Connacht Junior Cup
The Senior Men booked their place in the last eight of the Connacht Junior Cup with a hard-earned 20–12 win away to Ballyhaunis RFC.
Corrib struck early with a first-half try from Gary Keane, converted by Evan Flynn, before Flynn added a penalty early in the second half. A decisive try from Eric Flynn midway through the second period, again converted, extended the lead.
The closing minutes saw a huge defensive effort from the visitors, repelling sustained pressure inside their own 22. A late penalty, calmly slotted by Flynn, sealed the result and capped a composed and disciplined performance.
The reward is a home quarter-final against the winners of University of Galway RFC and Creggs RFC, scheduled for the weekend of the 25th January.
