Corrib RFC Launches Coach/Referee Academy
Corrib RFC Launches Coach/Referee Academy to Build the Future of Rugby in the local area.
Corrib RFC is excited to announce the launch of its new Coach/Referee Academy – an initiative dedicated to recruiting and developing coaches and referees from within our club community. The academy is designed to offer hands-on training, mentorship, and practical experience, providing participants with the skills and confidence to support rugby at all levels within the club. The practical experience and mentoring is provided from experienced coaches and referees, making it a well-rounded learning experience with a flexible learning timeline for any participant.
Ronan Casey, Chair of Rugby at Corrib RFC, spoke about the importance of this initiative:
“We believe in investing in the future of rugby here at Corrib. The Coach/Referee Academy is a pathway for our current members, former players, and other community rugby enthusiasts to step in, learn, and give back to the game and our club. It’s a fantastic opportunity to build rugby knowledge and contribute to the club’s long-term growth.”
Eugene Kenny, President of Corrib RFC, emphasised the club’s commitment to community and club development.
“This academy is about more than just training; it’s about creating a legacy. By nurturing new coaches and referees, we’re ensuring the sustainability of Corrib RFC and supporting the young talent that comes through our ranks. I encourage anyone with an interest in rugby to consider this program – it’s a rewarding way to be part of the Corrib family.”
The academy has already welcomed enthusiastic participants, including Corrib’s first female coach in the program, Saoirse Kelly. She expressed her excitement about joining the academy:
“I really love rugby, so entering the Corrib RFC Coaching/Referee Academy ensures my connection with rugby is sustained for the future. It means I can help the game grow and give back to the club that’s given me so much. It’s a unique opportunity to learn practical skills, and gain guidance from experienced coaches. I’m excited to be a part of something that will make a difference for Corrib RFC.”
Participants in the academy will receive club membership benefits after completing their academy training such as club and course fees reimbursement from Corrib RFC, club branded rugby gear, free entry to the Monthly club raffle and first refusal on this season’s Six Nations tickets.
Another early participant, Paddy Butler, shared his motivation for joining the academy:
“I wanted to be part of it in a way that goes beyond just playing. The academy will help me build my skills and confidence as a coach. It’s a chance to help the next generation of players, and continue to be involved in a game I love.”
If you're ready to make a real difference in grassroots rugby, the Coach/Referee Academy is the perfect opportunity. Join us in building the future of Corrib RFC!
